ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Reena Anand
Neurodiversity Consultant
specialising in the Intersection of Race and Ethnicity
A solicitor and former ombudsman specialising in the Equality Act and consumer vulnerability, Reena’s journey began when her eldest son was diagnosed autistic, revealing a stark absence of tailored support for global majority parents in similar circumstances - this inspired the creation of her consultancy.
Reena uses evidence-based research to address cultural biases hindering global majority neurodivergent individuals from obtaining support at home, school and work. She explores how race, ethnicity and neurodiversity intersect to shape outcomes for individuals and how to optimise environments for success. She hosts the "Unpacking Autism" podcast, delving into how culture influences the lives of autistic individuals and their families.
Beyond consulting, Reena serves on several boards most notably as a Trustee on the Management Committee at the Race Equality Foundation and has partnered with NHS Trusts and Autism Central on projects addressing health inequalities and access. She is also the Inclusion Governor and Chair of Governors of her local primary school.
In 2023, she won the Lord Hastings Integrity Award at the Baton Awards for her advocacy work. She has been nominated for the Positive Role Model Award for Disability at the National Diversity Awards and has recently been commissioned by a leading publisher to write a book on parenting autistic children in global majority families. She is inspired by her eldest son who is autistic and her younger son who is autistic and ADHD. Reena too identifies as neurodivergent.
